Daycare Record Child care inspection records

Privacy policy

Daycare Record is a free website for looking up state child care inspection records. You don’t need an account to use it, and we never ask for your name. This policy explains the limited information collected when you visit, who handles it and your choices.

Who we are

Daycare Record (daycarerecord.com) is an independent website. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Daycare Record. Questions about this policy or your information go to press@daycarerecord.com.

What we collect

  • How the site is used (Google Analytics). Google Analytics sets cookies to tell visits apart and reports how the site is used: the pages viewed, how visitors arrived, scrolling, clicks on links to other sites and file downloads, approximate location (city or region), and the type of device and browser. Google receives your IP address and uses it to estimate your location; Google says Google Analytics doesn’t log or store it. We look at this information in aggregate, to learn which pages are useful and to improve the site.
  • Page views and speed (Cloudflare Web Analytics). Cloudflare’s analytics script counts page views and measures how fast pages load, recording the page, the referring site, and your country, browser, operating system and device type. It doesn’t use cookies or other storage in your browser.
  • Hosting (Cloudflare). Cloudflare hosts and delivers the site. Like any web host, it processes the technical details your browser sends with each request, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks.
  • Email you send us. If you email us, we receive your address, your message and any attachments. We use them to reply and, when you report an error, to keep a record of the correction. Email to our address passes through Cloudflare’s email forwarding.

The site has no accounts, sign-up forms or comments. The search box runs in your browser: what you type in it stays there.

Cookies

Cookie What it does Lasts
_ga Google Analytics: a random ID that lets it recognize your browser when you return Up to 2 years after your last visit
_ga_28WJ10PMWE Google Analytics: keeps track of the current visit Up to 2 years after your last visit

If Cloudflare’s security checks need to verify your browser, Cloudflare may also set a short-lived security cookie (such as __cf_bm or cf_clearance). You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Every page works without them.

Who receives information

Google receives the analytics data described above and handles it under the Google Privacy Policy. Google also explains how it uses information from sites or apps that use its services. Cloudflare handles hosting, page-view and email-forwarding data under the Cloudflare Privacy Policy. Email you send us is stored with our email provider.

We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t use it to target ads. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

Your choices

  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
  • Install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on to stop Google Analytics from collecting data on the sites you visit.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we have about you and to have it corrected or deleted. Email press@daycarerecord.com and we’ll respond as the law where you live requires. The site has no accounts, so analytics data is tied to a browser cookie rather than to your name, and we may not be able to match it to a request.

These requests cover information we collect from visitors (analytics data and email). They don’t remove public records from center pages; see corrections.

Browsers’ “Do Not Track” setting has no agreed standard, so the site doesn’t respond to it; the choices above work instead.

Children

Daycare Record is written for parents and other adults. It isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has sent us personal information, email press@daycarerecord.com and we’ll delete it.

Public records on center pages

Center pages show records that state licensing agencies publish about licensed child care centers. Those records can include the names of licensees, directors and other people named in the state’s findings. They come from the states, not from visitors to this site. To report an error on a page, see corrections.

How long we keep information

Google Analytics keeps event-level data for the period set in our account, no longer than 14 months; Google’s standard aggregated reports aren’t affected by that limit. We keep emails as long as we need them to reply and to keep a record of corrections. Cloudflare keeps its logs under its own policy.

Security

Every page is served over HTTPS. The site is made of static pages, with no user accounts or database of visitors.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
