Terms of use

These terms apply to your use of daycarerecord.com. By using the site, you agree to them.

What Daycare Record is

Daycare Record republishes inspection and licensing records that state agencies make public (currently Texas, California and Pennsylvania) and adds summaries, comparisons and scores of its own. It is independent and not affiliated with any state agency or child care provider.

Information, not advice

Our pages are for general information. A score summarizes a center’s state inspection record; it isn’t a rating of the quality of care, a recommendation or a guarantee about any center. Records can be incomplete or out of date, a state can change or remove a record, and our daily update can lag behind the state’s own site. Before you make a decision about a child’s care, confirm the center’s license status and records with the state and visit the center yourself.

Errors and corrections

If a page shows a record differently from the state’s own record, tell us and we’ll fix confirmed errors. We don’t remove accurate public records on request. See corrections.

Using our content

  • You’re welcome to link to any page and to quote short passages with credit to Daycare Record and a link.
  • The county tables published with our reports are licensed under CC BY 4.0: you can reuse them for any purpose if you credit Daycare Record, link to the report and note the CC BY 4.0 license.
  • The records themselves come from the states. Texas publishes its child care data with a public-domain dedication (CC0), and California’s inspection and complaint reports are public records.
  • Our own text, scores, page design and code are ours. Please don’t copy the site or large parts of it, or republish our pages as your own.

Acceptable use

Don’t use the site to harass, threaten or intimidate anyone, including child care providers and their staff. Don’t present our pages as official state records or misstate what a record says. Don’t try to disrupt the site, and don’t use automated tools to copy it at scale or in a way that slows it down; if you need data, email press@daycarerecord.com.
